Need inspiration, attend a conference

There’s nothing like a great keynote speaker to get your mind fired up and your body and soul reinvigorated. Yesterday, it was keynote speaker Dr. Oren Harari who delivered an often humorous, but nonetheless compelling, keynote on Organizational Change and Transformational Leadership.  His message, good isn’t good enough in an economy where “products are being commoditized, services are being imitated, and traditional barriers to market entry are collapsing requires calculated and consistent reinvention of your business. To sustain a competitive advantage in today’s copycat economy, you must break away from the pack.” [Also the title of his new bestseller - Break From the Pack - How to Compete in a Copycat Economy].

If there is one important message I took away from the conference on Leadership, Connecting Vision to Reality [I took many], is the changing paradigm in which business is being conducted today. It’s what PriceWaterhouseCooperscalls Ubiquitous Participation [I'd rather call it Don Tapscott's coined phrase - Wikonomics], where leading companies around the world are now creating new and innovative products and services through communities of collaboration - “today, encyclopedias, jetliners, operating systems, mutual funds, and many other items are being created by teams numbering in the thousands or even millions”…

Can you imagine your business being transformed through open collaboration with your partners, suppliers and customers as they work together in a community created to deliver your next sightseeing products? This is how the next generation of entrepreneurs are going to be thinking when they position themselves to compete against you.
